Top 5 Moments From the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards

The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards aired tonight and it was an enjoyable show if you’re a certain age. It had its moments but it wasn’t nothing hot.

One new segment they added to this year’s show was the live Smacked URL rap battle. But otherwise the show was a good representation of the current state of rap.

YBN Cordae and Anderson .Paak took the stage, Lil Baby paid homage to his hometown Atlanta, Rick Ross even performed.

But what is usually the best part of the show, the cyphers, was honestly forgettable. They tried to do a comedy cypher that was saved by Chico Bean and Karlous Miller, NBA player, Iman, was forced in another cypher, and the first cypher was just okay.

Overall it was an okay show but we’re able to find a silver lining in every grey cloud. Here are our Top 5 moment from the BET Hip Hop Awards:

1. Megan Thee Stallion heated things up with her opening performance of her chart-topping single “Hot Girl Summer.”

2. DaBaby was the man of the night. He took home the award for Best New Rapper and took the stage three times.

3. Petey Pablo and Lil Jon joining Saweetie on stage to help her perform “My Type” and reminding the younger generation where the hit originated from.

4. Live Smacked URL rap battle. For people who keep up with URL, it was no surprise that DNA went home with the victory because he seemingly battle raps for fun.

5. Lil Kim receiving her first-ever BET award and putting on a legendary performance alongside Junior Mafia. It was dope AF when they all took turns in the booth to prove they still got it.
