Today we celebrate the 46th birthday of a reggae icon, Beanie Man! The Jamaican artist has maintained relevancy for over two decades and has a plethora of classic hits under his belt. He is often referred to as King of the Dancehall.

In 1995 he released his first International hit, “Who Am I?” and became one of the very few Jamaican artists to successfully cross over to American mainstream media. His song went Gold and he went on to work with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Janet Jackson, Mya, and more.

In honor of Beenie Man’s birthday today, we put together a listicle ranking 9 of his Hip Hop collaborations from worst to best. Check it out:

9. “Gun Shot” featuring Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is undoubtedly the Queen of Rap, but this song was most likely released when she was going through her “Anaconda” phase and it sounds way too much like a Pop song for it to be Two Bees Entertainment favorite. So we ranked this as the WORST Hip Hop collaboration with Mr. Man.

8. “I’m Serious” featuring T.I.

This seems like an unusual collaboration but it actually worked out. Beenie held down the chorus and they both sung about how they’re respected in the streets.

7. “Tell Me (Remix)” featuring Angie Martinez

We personally love Angie Martinez at Two Bees Entertainment, and she is undoubtedly Hip Hop royalty. But we ranked this as the third worst collaboration simply because he already did most of the work when he released the original song.

6. “Love Me Now” featuring Wyclef Jean

This song stayed true to its Hip Hop roots with the production, but the legendary artists both brought their authenticity to the record.

5. “Fresh From Yard” featuring Lil Kim

This song takes us back to a time when DJ Clue was on his production sh*t. Lil Kim came through with her Brooklyn swagg and created a cool lil bop with the reggae icon. We also love her Brooklyn patois lol.

4. “Controlla” featuring Drake

We ranked this the worst Hip Hop collaboration featuring Beenie Man because it wasn’t much of a collaborative effort. It was a sample of his 1995 record, “Tear Off Mi Garment.” And by the time this version of “Controlla” was released, we were already used to Popcaan’s leaked version which eventually became the official remix.

3. “Feel It Boy” featuring Janet Jackson

The Neptune sound is iconic and irresistible. And anytime Beenie lends his vocals for a Neptune beat, it’s an instant classic.

2. “Dude” featuring Ms. Thing and Shawnna

You couldn’t go to a party in the early ’00s without hearing this song. It was almost hard no to rank this song as number 1 but n comparison to the number 1 song …

1. “Girls Dem Sugar” featuring Mya

Beenie Man ah di girls dem sugar! This is absolutely one of Mya’s best collaborations too. Arguably one of the best reggae crossover songs. Not to mention it’s another Neptune sound.
