Biz Markie Reportedly Hospitalized for Serious Diabetic Condition, Not Related to COVID-19

Words by Andre Kettle

According to TMZ, Biz Markie has been hospitalized “for weeks” with a serious condition.

The Hip-Hop legend says the cause of his hospital stay is due to his battle with Type 2 diabetes and it is not related to the coronavirus.

The “Just a Friend” artist, born Marcel Theo Hall, “is receiving the best care from an amazing team of medical professionals,” his rep further confirmed. Biz’s conditions current condition appears to be “unknown” yet serious, but his team remains optimistic saying they’re “positive about the outcome.”

Back in 2010 the 56-year-old rap artist was officially diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and opened up about the disease in an interview with New York Daily News, where he announced he lost about 140 pounds coming from 385 to 244. This came from cutting out a lot of sugar from his diet.

“I walk. I do the treadmill, I walk around the mall,” Biz said in an interview with New York Daily News. “I do a little crunches with my stomach, not that much. Just enough to get the engine going cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha! Vroooommmm!”

Celebrities such as Will Smith, Magic Johnson & others encouraged and helped him be motivated to continue to be healthy.

“They be seein’ me, I lost the weight, and I didn’t have to use lap band surgery or whatever,” the iconic beatboxer said. “They see that I did it, and they know I was the greedy, greasy person. So, if I can do it, anyone can do it.”

Thoughts and prayers go out to Biz Markie in that he has a speedy and healthy recovery.
