Chadwick Boseman lost his four-year battle to colon cancer on Friday night.

An official announcement was made on his social media accounts. “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” the caption read. “Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. ⁣

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”⁣

Boseman is best known for his role as T’Challa in Black Panther.

The actor sparked concern among his fans who noticed the significant weight loss. Although he appeared thin, he still delivered powerful messages on his social media during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and donated to those in need.

“Celebrating #JackieRobinsonDay with the launch of Thomas Tull’s #Operation42, a donation of 4.2 million dollars in personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals that service the African American Communities who have been hit the hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Chadwick wrote, who portrayed Jackie Robinson in the 42 biopic.

He also portrayed Thurgood Marshall and James Brown in their respective biopics.

Chadwick Boseman’s time in Hollywood was cut short but it was impactful. He gave life to prominent Black figures like the famed baseball player. “The story is relevant because we still stand on his shoulders. He started something – I would even say maybe he didn’t even start it, it started before him. But he carried the torch. And he carried it alone for a period of time before other people could help him,” he said of portraying Robinson.

The actor passed away in his home with his wife and family by his side. RIP Chad! Wakanda Forever!
