Chance The Rapper participated in the upcoming episode of the Lifetime docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly.
The Chicago rapper admitted that he didn’t even consider the singer’s victims before collaborating with him n his 2015 track “Somewhere In Paradise,” in an interview with critic Jamilah Lemieux.
“Making a song with R. Kelly was a mistake. I didn’t value the accusers’ stories because they were black women,” he said. “I made a mistake.”
R. Kelly was once held in high regard in Chicago, and apparently Chance The Rapper felt the same way. He brought him out as a special guest during his 2014 appearance at Lollapalooza.
Producer, Dream Hampton said that many people declined to participate in the documentary including JAY-Z, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige and more. But Chano’s participation is a clear indication that he changed his tone about the Pied Piper.
