Yesterday, DaniLeigh shared a video apology in response to her “Yellow Bone” song sparking colorism accusations.

Last week, Dani posted a video to Instagram sharing a snippet of her song, “Yellow Bone.” In the video, the singer is seen dancing to her lyrics “yellow bone is what he want!”

The video is now missing from her page, signaling that she has since deleted the post. However, it stayed up long enough to spark colorism accusations in her comments. She even went as far as replying to the comments,

“Why y’all think I’m hating on other colors when there are millions of songs speaking on all types… Why y’all so sensitive & take it personal… Gahhhh damn.”

The Florida singer now is sharing an apology in a video replyto everyone she has offended. In the video, she explains that she feels misunderstood for her song.  To her knowledge, the singer believes the problem lies in people thinking that her song was what the world wanted. She clarifies that the lyrics, “yellow bone is what he want,” wasn’t about the world. Instead, it was about her boyfriend, the rapper DaBaby.

She continues explaining that the song doesn’t have any deep-rooted; stating she wasn’t thinking about colorism when she made it. Dani shares that she understands that colorism is a “real topic.” However, she goes on to compare her song idea to other dark-skin females who make songs about their “skin-type.”

Dani seems to be making the claim that the song was made in fun. Despite knowing colorism is a current issue, the artist wasn’t thinking of it when she made the song. Furthermore, she challenges the people calling her a colorist or a racist. She points out that she’s currently dating a “whole chocolate man” and has “beautiful melanated skin friends.”

As of currently, the internet isn’t too accepting of DaniLeigh’s apology. On Twitter, users point out her contradictions. From the artist stating she understands colorism to her not considering her skin color a privilege. Her song choice still remains problematic to many.

To some, her relationship with DaBaby seems to adding more fuel to the fire. Considering that DaBaby’s mother of his daughter, Meme is dark-skinned. Many have pointed out the suspicious song to be a colorist action that Dani chose to take part in.
