Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ Went Platinum the Day it Dropped

Since the June 29th release of Scorpion, Drake has been raking in W’s. Which is well needed after his defeat in the infamous rap feud with Pusha T.

The album was pulling in 10 million streams every hour on Spotify, as well as shattering every Apple Music record, topping his own records. Three days after Scorpion dropped, it broke the one week US streaming record.

Chart Data reports that the 25-track album went platinum on the day of its release.

Scorpion was already eligible for platinum status thanks to the album’s singles, “God’s Plan” and “Nice For What.” Ten track units equal one album sale, and the two songs had moved more than 10 million equivalent units, so the project already had more than the one million equivalent units it needed to become platinum.

Many artists don’t submit their projects for certification immediately, but Drake’s team already knew what time it was and had it ready to be certified the day it dropped.
