EXCLUSIVE: Naturi Naughton Talks 50 Cent Leaking ‘Power’ Episodes, Gender Pay Gaps, New Music

1

Naturi Naughton’s character on Power is an accurate representation of women’s new societal roles. Women are stepping up and being bosses.

“I think we are leading the way,” Naughton said in an exclusive interview with Miss2Bees at ESSENCE’s 2018 Best in Black Beauty event when asked if she feels like the woman’s place in society is shifting. I  also asked if she ever had her own personal experiences with gender pay gaps.

Yes! As an actress, people are always for some reason expecting women to take less and I think time is up hence why women are like oh no we deserve the same pay because we work just as hard and sometimes harder.

Naturi revealed that she’s working on new music that she’s “super excited” about, and it’s tentative release date is later this year. Read the full interview below:

(This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.)

Is it true that 50 cent leaked the episodes of the upcoming season himself like he admitted to doing?
*Giggles* I don’t know anything about that but I don’t think so.

*Giggles* Good answer. Have you ever personally experienced a situation where there has been a gender pay gap?
Yes! As an actress, people are always for some reason expecting women to take less and I think time is up hence why women are like oh no we deserve the same pay because we work just as hard and sometimes harder. Ya know, being a mom and all that we do. It’s not easy.

Would you argue that the cultural like the woman’s place in society is shifting in the culture?
Mhm! Definitely, women are becoming, not just the household ya know maternal aspect. We are becoming bosses in the workplace, professionally we are leading, I think we are leading the way. Carrying the torch for other women to feel confident and embrace their greatness and I am proud to be a part of that.

What else are you working on besides ‘Power’? Any music on the way or anything?
I am. I am working on music uh you’ll hear about it probably later this year in 2018. But I am super excited about my music and ill keep you posted.
