‘Yo! MTV Raps’, ‘Unplugged’, And More Returns on Paramount+

'Yo! MTV Raps', 'Unplugged', And More Returns on Paramount+

Yo! MTV Raps, Unplugged, and VH1’s ‘Behind the Music get a reboot on the streaming platform, Paramount+. Yo! MTV Raps will get an update.

Currently, it seems that a lot of early 2000s and late 90s entertainment are getting a revamp this year. Just 2 weeks ago, the composer Mark Mothersbaugh announced a series revival of ‘Rugrats.’

In addition, ViacomCBS announced that several classic MTV and VH1 shows are getting reboots for digital streaming service Paramount+. The announcement came on Wednesday (Feb 24). Furthermore, on the music front, VH1 and MTV franchises Behind the MusicYo! MTV Raps and Unplugged are set to return on the platform.

“We are thrilled to re-invent some of our most storied and impactful music franchises, including Behind the Music and Yo! MTV Raps, for Paramount+,” Bruce Gilmer, ViacomCBS President says. “In addition, we will partner with some of the biggest names across the music industry to bring exclusive and unique content to the platform, such as Dave Grohl’s Cradle to Stage based on his mom’s critically-acclaimed book, and many more to come.”

Yo! MTV Raps was the first hip-hop-focused show on MTV. Running from 1988-95, the initial hosts were Fab Five Freddy. Later Doctor Dré and Ed Lover. Hosts for the new show haven’t been named yet.

Featuring stripped-down performances, Unplugged debuted on MTV in 1989. Additionally, Unplugged has continued off and on into the present. Recent editions feature K-Pop superstars BTS, which aired on Tuesday.
