Shonda Rhimes is taking her talents to Netflix. Shonda Land, plus binge-watching, minus commercials. What more do you need in life?
After innumerable years on ABC, where she assumed control Thursday evenings with her hit shows Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and Grey’s Anatomy, the TV maker reported that she’ll have eight shows on Netflix and will convey content that watchers haven’t seen previously.
She uncovered amid her take a seat with Netflix’s central substance officer, Ted Sarandos, that she wouldn’t make a rehash of Gray’s Anatomy, the New York Times reports.
“I said, ‘I’m not going to make you a second Grey’s Anatomy,” said Rhimes. “That was one of the first things I said. And he said, ‘I’m not interested in you making a second Grey’s Anatomy.”

- A show about a fashionable young grifter written about in New York magazine named Anna Delvey, who conned New York socialites into funding her lavish lifestyle but now she’s living her not so lavish life in Rikers Island, behind bars.
- A version of the Bridgerton Series, which is about eight siblings set in the 1800s, turned into a dramatic series.
- A series based on Reset, a book by Ellen Pao about sexism in Silicon Valley.
- Pico & Sepulveda, a series set in Mexican California during the 1840s.
- The Warmth of Other Suns, a book about the flight of African Americans from the Jim Crow South to the North and the West, that’ll be adapted by Anna Deavere Smith.
- The Residence, based off of a nonfiction book about the private lives of U.S. presidents, their family, and the staff.
- Sunshine Scouts, which Rhimes describes as “darkly comic, ironic, twisty show about some foul-mouthed teenage girls who are trapped at the end of the world.”
- Hot Chocolate Nutcracker, a documentary on Debbie Allen reimagining the ballet The Nutcracker.
