On a recent appearance on day time talk show Dr.Oz, Barry Hankerson the uncle of the late R&B singer Aaliyah stated that he had no knowledge of the illicit relationship between his niece and R&B singer R.Kelly.
Hankerson claims that the same could not be said for other members of their family, specifically the singer’s mother Diane Haughton. “Didn’t have a clue,” he said. “Completely ignorant to it. But I think my sister knew a lot more than what we thought she knew.”
The brief clip has been circulating online and has many fans stating that Aaliyah stated in 2001 that there were certain things regarding this situation that she would never speak on, and by Barry doing so, he has gone against his niece’s wishes.
Details on the relationship between an underage Aaliyah and an adult R.Kelly have been coming up lately as a result of the R&B legend’s recent court proceedings in his trial for multiple sex crimes.
R.Kelly has always remained mum on what really transpired between the two stating “Out of respect for her, and her mom and her dad, I will not discuss Aaliyah. That was a whole other situation, a whole other time, it was a whole other thing, and I’m sure that people also know that.”
