Black Teen Was Shot After Asking for Directions to Go to School

Brennan Walker, 14, is a freshman at Rochester High School. On Thursday morning, he woke up late and missed the school bus. So he decided to walk to school instead. It will take him about an hour and a half to walk but at least he’ll make it in time for his favorite subject, world studies.

He got lost and didn’t have a smartphone, so he had no GPS access. He stopped to ask for directions and that’s when things went left.

A woman answered the door at the second house he tried, and said she began screaming almost immediately.

“She didn’t really give me a chance to speak a lot, and I was trying to tell her that I go to Rochester High and I was looking for directions. A few moments later the guy came downstairs, and he grabbed the shotgun,” Brennan said.

The man briefly followed Brennan, stepped off his porch, and fired a single shot with a 12-gauge shotgun. Fortunately, the young Black man wasn’t hit.

“It’s disgusting, it’s disturbing and it’s unacceptable on every level,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard of Oakland County said.
