Britney Spears's Conservatorship Officially Ended After 13 Years

Britney Spears conservatorship has ended after 13 long years. Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissed Spears’ conservatorship on Friday, removing Spears from the legal rights that had her father and his staff making choices about her employment, who she could see, and how she spent her money. Spears was placed under a conservatorship since 2008 after suffering a very public breakdown.

Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart said a “safety net” will be in place for Britney Spears’ finances and personal care after a Los Angeles judge terminated her conservatorship Friday.”The time has come today to end the conservatorship,” Rosengart said, thanking the judge.” Assets will now be transferred from Spears’ temporary conservator to the singer’s trust, the judge said.

“As of today, effective immediately, the conservatorship has been terminated as to both the person and the estate,” attorney Mathew Rosengart said outside the courthouse today, CNN reports. “This is a monumental day for Britney Spears.”

Britney Spears spoke out about her conservatorship , she shared her happiness on a heartfelt Instagram expressing her gratitude to her fans.” Good God I love my fans so much its crazy. “I think I’m gunna cry the rest of the day!!! Best day ever… Praise the Lord… Can I get a Amen🙏🏽”

Moments after the news broke, Spears’s fiancé, Sam Asghari posted the word “freedom” to his Instagram grid.”History was made today. Britney is Free!” he wrote.

The next court dates are scheduled for Dec. 8 and Jan. 19. In January, the parties will discuss a petition for substituted judgment, according to the judge.
