D’Angelo is coming out of hiding for his upcoming Verzuz battle. The R&B figurehead D’Angelo is going against unnamed friends in the Verzuz at Apollo Theater in Harlem later this month.
D’Angelo has been off the grid for awhile. After not being able to be reached, the singer has been announced as the next Verzuz guest. The R&B star will go toe to toe with the unannounced opponent live from Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater on Feb. 27. Organizers are claiming this Verzuz battle will be a “legendary night.”

Co-created by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, Verzuz is now in its second season. In recent weeks, we’ve seen Jeezy vs Gucci Mane, E-40 take on Too Short, and Ashanti against Keyshia Cole.
Before the R&B artist went into hiatus, D’Angelo released Black Messiah in 2014.
That album was his most recent album and first to follow his R&B classic Voodoo from 14 years prior. Additionally, D’Angelo appeared on producer Slingbaum’s vinyl-only release “Behoove” with Erykah Badu. In 2019, the reclusive soul auteur contributed “Unshaken” to the soundtrack of the video game Red Dead Redemption 2 and also collaborated with Rapsody on “Ibtihaj” from the rapper’s album, Eve.
