Singer DaniLeigh is facing some backlash for her new song Yellow Bone.
Her song is intended to celebrate ‘light skin baddies,’ however, people aren’t having it. Dani previewed a snippet of the single “Yellow Bone,” on Instagram yesterday and captions the post with, “YELLOW BONE THATS WHAT HE WANT!”
DaniLeigh, DaBaby’s girlfriend, and her comments blew up shortly after she shares the song. Comments filled her IG post with accusations of colorism and disappointment. As soon as the singer got wind of the claims, she responds saying, “Why I can’t make a song for my light skin baddies??” wrote DaniLeigh.
“Why y’all think I’m hating on other colors when there are millions of songs speaking on all types… Why y’all so sensitive & take it personal… Gahhhh damn.”

Now, I know that I’m supposed to stay neutral for these kinds of things. However, Dani is so far out of line if she really thinks she can call herself a yellow bone without any repercussions. Furthermore, instead of coming off as an ally, she decides to call a group of people “sensitive” for holding her accountable. She knows what kind of social climate we’re in right now. So, for her to throw a fit because no one is allowing her bull is… well, white privilege. She’s claiming something for herself and disrespecting people while faking innocence (foh).
Twitter Response
Anyways, her comment on Instagram sparked a huge discourse about colorism that trended yesterday on Twitter. There are many reasons as to why people are upset with DaniLiegh. As I previously mentioned, one is being her lack of self-awareness, according to Twitter users, who called her out for claiming to be ‘Afro Latina.’ Furthermore, the singer pushed people’s buttons by accusing her critics of being sensitive.
Idgaf if Dani Leigh identifies as Afro-Latina or not, at the end of the day, she is still a light skinned racially ambiguous person who benefits from colorism.

Dani Leigh using a Black, culturally specific term like "yellow bone" as an anthem for light skinned women (as if everything in media doesn't already praise light skin) while also not being Black (Blackness is global including in the DR but she is decidedly not Black) is tiring.

DaniLiegh has posted a response to Twitter as well, writing, “Congratulations y’all gotta another thing to say about me when u hate.” In addition to saying to that tweet, she apologizes for offending anyone. However, the singer goes on to make it clear that she’s unapologetic for her song choice.
Twitter users are also speculating Dani’s song is throwing shade at Meme, the mother of DaBaby’s child. Dani was seen last yeah sub-tweeting Meme, who considered Dani a ‘sidepiece.’
aside from the underlying colorist sentiment, Dani Leigh shouldn’t have made that song when her nigga still wants his ex who is actually EATING Dani up looks wise 🥴 pic.twitter.com/caaqpWOFYY

Dani is not the only artist blowing up this week for colorism accusations. Earlier this week, the female rapper Bhad Bhabie was also in the headlines after responding to someone asking her why she looks different.
