Donald Glover Signs Eight-Figure Deal With Amazon Studios

Donald Glover can do it all. Sing, perform, act, be a comedian, you name it. Now Donald Glover signs a deal with Amazon Studios.

After leaving the music industry, Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, signs a deal with Amazon.

Sources close to the situation tell Deadline that Glover is leaving his previous home at Disney-owned FX. Now, the performer has closed an overall deal, believed to be in the eight figures. Additionally, sources also say Malia Obama has joined the writers’ room of one of Glover’s initial projects at the studio. Apparently it’s a mini-room for a Janine Nabers project about a Beyonce-like figure.

This is exciting considering how much of a success his show Atlanta was on FX. His brother, Stephen Glover, who wrote and produced on Atlanta, also has inked an overall deal at the studio, according to a person familiar with the deal. As part of the pact, Glover’s work also would be featured on a content portal on Amazon Prime Video.

Donald Glover Signs Eight-Figure Deal With Amazon Studios

Earlier this week, Glover and Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced they were creating a Mr. and Mrs. Smith TV series for Amazon Prime Video. The duo will not only serve as executive producers. Instead, they will also star in the project that delivers a new take on the 2005 feature film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith TV series is expected to hit the small screen in 2022.

Donald Glover has announced that he and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be starring in a remake of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ for Amazon Studios. Furthermore, it seems as though whatever Donald Glover touches, it turns to artistic gold. We’re looking forward to seeing other black-produced entertainment other than Tyler Perry’s. What about you?
