Idris Elba Will Reportedly Replace Will Smith in 'Suicide Squad' Sequel

Words by Eboni Euniece

We all love some good friendly competition. DC and Marvel are no strangers to it. Things just got a little more spicy in the ongoing war between the two legendary comic brands as Idris Elba is up for the role of DC’s Deadshot.

Elba is said to be replacing Will Smith in the film. Smith previously stated that he’d love to do a sequel of the movie and even a solo movie as Deadshot. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts he had to turn down his chance to suit up once more. Smith is set to film the sequel for Netflix’s Bright movie which would still be in production once the filming for the second Suicide Squad begins. Now Elba is up for the role.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect since his contract is up with Marvel. Elba was starring in Marvel’s Thor franchise movies as Heimdall, the powerful and all-seeing Asgardian. Although Elba enjoyed the role and exclaimed on twitter the character would be missed he also wasn’t too happy being on set. He was uncomfortable after filming Mandela going back into that environment just a day later.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Idris Elba said, “I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this fucking helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela.’ … Then there I was, in this stupid harness, with this wig and this sword and these contact lenses. It ripped my heart out.”

Now he’s possibly joining the DC family. Fans are excited to see him as a new powerful character in a superhero universe but it leaves the question… is this revenge?
