JAY-Z Says Kanye West's Comments About Just Blaze Was 'A Bit Unfair'

JAY-Z didn’t watch Kanye West’s full Drink Champs interview, but he defended Roc-a-Fella producer, Just Blaze, during a conversation on Twitter Spaces while promoting his latest project, The Harder They Fall on Netflix.

Hov was name-dropped multiple times throughout the conversation but he made it clear that he respects Kanye’s opinion and perspective even if he doesn’t agree with it.

“The one thing I would say out of all the pieces I seen was the Just Blaze thing was a bit unfair. If you’re creating an album and the assignment is soul samples, everyone is coming with soul. You’re trying to make a cohesive piece of music. I don’t think anyone was copying of anyone. I think everyone created for the project. The baby was the Blueprint and everyone should be proud of what we created.”

14 Things We Learned From Kanye West’s ‘Drink Champs’ Interview

Kanye called Just Blaze a “copycat” which is arguably one of the most wildest moment of the two and a half hour conversation.

“Swizz Beatz or Just Blaze?” Drink Champs co-host NORE asked, to which Ye responded, “Well Swizz Beatz definitely because Just Blaze is a copycat.”

He continued, “He get credit for the Blueprint and I did the first half and he just copied my half. Look where I’m at and look where he’s at.”

The veteran producer caught wind of Ye’s comments and responded with a lengthy screenshot of his notes.

“None of what was said tonight regarding me fits with any of our history or our previous interactions – particularly in light of very recent attempt to work together again, including a much rumored collaborative project he was looking for me to handle a good amount of” he wrote. “Most recently, a couple of months back I woke up to a literal red alert from his people that he was looking for me for his last album in the 11th hour.”

Just Blaze continued addressing Ye’s remarks comparing their success, “Respectfully, I’m happy for him and the fact that he’s succeeded in ways that he wanted to, but not everyone wants to be where he is. Everyone’s definition of personal success is a bit different.”
