The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder pick up where the original left off and Kyla Pratt reprised her role as the lead character, Penny Proud.
We caught up with the actress at the 2021 Ebony Power 100 gala and she spoke about what fans expect in the upcoming reboot.
When asked if the series will continue to touch on controversial topics Kyla said, “the best thing about Proud Family is we talked about a lot of things that people didn’t want to talk about. Things that were taboo, or that you’re not supposed to touch. So this time around we’re not changing anything. We’re talking about what’s happening in 2021 and 2022. It might be a little [controversial] but all stories gotta be told and I think you’re gonna love it.”
Kyla Pratt shared her favorite Proud Family episode and she said she’s stuck between the episode where Penny played on the all-boys football team and the Kwanza episode because “it taught me a lot when I was younger and I didn’t realize how much the show was teaching me as a young 15-year-old girl.”
The revival will feature A-listers from the worlds of music, film, TV, and sports including Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance the Rapper, Normani, Leslie Odom Jr., Tiffany Haddish, Lena Waithe, Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union, Debbie Allen, James Pickens Jr., Courtney B. Vance, Jane Lynch, Marsai Martin, and many more.
Pratt isn’t the only OG cast member to reprise her role. Tommy Davidson is set to return as Penny’s over the top entrepreneur father Oscar Proud; Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Penny’s level headed mother, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama Penny’s Larger than life Grandmother and Penny’s besties Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones; Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howze; and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer could not be left out as Penny’s infamous singer Uncle Bobby Proud.
Its been 20 years since the original premiered and Disney Plus released a featurette on their YouTube channel ahead of the highly-anticipated premiere.
