Lil Wayne Canceled Rolling Loud Performance Minutes Before His Set

Words by Anastasia Daphnis

This past weekend (May 11, 2018 to May 13, 2018), Rolling Loud, the largest Hip-Hop festival in the world took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The three-day weekend long festival features some of the greatest hip hop acts from the beginning to artist from today. This year the expansive line up included over 60 plus rappers including J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Tory Lanez, Play Boi Carti, Young Dolp, Chief Keef, Migos, Travis Scott and many many more. Unfortunately, one high-anticipated artist was expected to perform Sunday, May 13, 2018 at 9:15 pm but was cancelled at the last minute.

According to a statement issued by Rolling Loud, rapper Lil Wayne fell “unexpectedly ill ahead of his set time.”

The statement went on to say: “We have a longstanding and healthy partnership with Lil Wayne and his team, and look forward to continuing to work with him and having him on a Rolling Loud stage in the near future,”

Of course Rolling Loud goers were highly frustrated with his absence as the rapper failed to deliver. Especially after co-founder of Cash Money Records, Birdman, suggested that the long-anticipated album Tha Carter V would be dropped this year. Additionally, the steep price of the tickets for the festival also adds fuel to the fire. Tickets were sold for the weekend long festival ranging from $425 to a steep $1,000.

Wayne took to twitter May 14, 2018 and issued a personal statement to his fans apologizing for his absence:

“Due to unfortunate events I kouldnt take the stage last night at Rolling Loud. I apologize to the fans that kame out. Looking forward to killing the next @RollingLoud festival stop!”

Fans still reacted negatively towards Tunechi’ absence because as sources like HotNewHipHop highlighted, Wayne and Birdman were seen on the premises minutes before his scheduled show time. Wayne has a reoccurring past of cancelling shows due to health issues. All in all, we hope Wayne is okay.
