We’re less than a week into the new year and Gunna and The Weeknd already announced they’re dropping new albums this week!

The XO crooner’s Dawn FM collection features Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey.

The upcoming Amazon Livestream and the wacky cover art is building high anticipation for the project.

Meanwhile, Gunna’s peers and the reactions from social media are generating the chatter around his DS4 album. “Gunna played me his album,” Lil Baby tweeted. “P ain’t bullshittin.”

Releasing in the first quarter of the new year was a tactical move on behalf of both artists following an underwhelming year in Hip Hop.

But all hope isn’t lost as new music from some of our faves including Nicki Minaj, SZA, and 6lack are slated to be released any day now.

Check out this list of the most highly-anticipated Hip Hop and R&B albums of 2022.

Coi Leray

Coi made her debut on Two Bees TV during the 2021 BET Awards and announced that she was working on her debut album. The “Twinnem” singer has been less visible online compared to her breakout after being scrutinized for her petite frame and live performances.

She was scheduled to make her debut in September but it will probably see the light of day in the new year. She exclusively told us that Lil Durk, Pooh Shiesty, Nav, H.E.R., G Herbo, and A Boogie are all set to be featured on her star-studded untitled project.

Rowdy Rebel

The Brooklyn drill pioneer has been working non-stop since his release. He linked up with Funk Flex when he came home for his ‘first day out‘ record, “Re-Route.” He followed up with the NAV-assisted single, “Jesse Owens,” and joined forces with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie for their “9 Bridge” collab.

His latest musical effort is “Shmoney” featuring the other half of GS9, Bobby Shmurda, and Quavo.

Rowdy is working relentlessly on his debut album Sacrifices, which will serve as a solo introduction. The “Beam Jawn” rapper exclusively told us that his album will feature Lil Uzi Vert and Dreezy.

It’s unclear if fans are still anticipating new music from Bobby because his latest releases were met with mixed reviews.

SZA

It’s been five years since the release of SZA’s classic debut album, Ctrl, and her sophomore album is overdue!

Following the release of “Hit Different” and “Good Days” fans were under the impression that new music would’ve arrived last year. But SZA held her fans over by releasing the TikTok viral song, “I Hate U.”

It’ll will be nice to get a new body of work while her core fan base are still in their 20-somethings.

Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert Teases Fans With New Unreleased Music on Social Media

After releasing the long-awaited Eternal Atake in 2020, Lil Uzi Vert teased a hanful of music.

The Philly rapper admitted to dumbing down his last album for sales but wanted it to be “cultlike.”

“All of my music for Eternal Atake got leaked, so I had to redo it,” he recalls. “It didn’t reach its full potential—I just knew it wasn’t the sound I was going for. Let’s just say Eternal Atake, for another artist, would have been really good because it was super dumbed down to where everyone could enjoy it, but that’s not my artistry. I want my new music to be more intimate to my real fans. I wanted it to be almost cultlike.”

He teased mystery projects titled The Pink Tape, Forever Young, and the third installment of Luv is Rage, which will probably display his artistic range and he’ll make up for his missteps.

“I was listening to all the industry guys and their formats—it was confusing me because these guys are getting No. 1’s,” he allows. But I realized the music ain’t even living; their No. 1’s are real quick. I had to realize this is their beginning; they’re younger than me, so they have room to do that. I don’t have room to do that. I used to always look at all the young guys and be like, ‘Oh, shout out this guy.’ I ain’t shouting out nobody no more.”

Does it sound like Uzi will have one of the best albums of 2022?

Chris Brown

Chris Brown Responds To The Investigation of Woman Alleging The Singer Slapped Her Weave Out

Chris Brown officially commenced “Breezy Season” after announcing his upcoming single, “Iffy” with a cinematic trailer.

The teaser doesn’t give a hint of what fans can expect sonically but it looks like something the singer put a lot of thought into.

“THIS GONNA BE MY 10th album,” he wrote. “The amount of songs on this one will be the same amount of songs as my first album. KEEP IT CLASSIC… Chris Brown to BREEZY!”

Aaliyah

Blackground Records 2.0 finally made Aaliyah’s music available on streaming services and they’re putting out a brand new album by the late singer.

Future, Chris Brown, and Drake are all set to be featured on the posthumous project, Unstoppable.

The lead single “Poison” featuring The Weeknd was met with bad reviews because of Babygirl’s poor audio quality.

Flo Milli

Flo Milli hasn’t seen her breakthrough yet but hopefully that will change when she releases her untitled debut album.

“This project is different from Ho, Why Is You Here? because of the versatility of it,” she said in a profile on Clash Magazine. “I’ve been trying new things but you guys have got to stay tuned to see!”

The Alabama native stood out during her XXL Freshman freestyle with Pooh Shiesty, 42 Dugg, and Rubi Rose.

Flo Milli recently hosted Diesel’s private Sound of the Brave launch party. Take a look inside the event.

Latto

If “slow and steady wins the race” was a person, it will be Latto. Her song “Big Energy” sat atop rhythmic radio for two weeks.

Despite being critcized for not being authentic to her sound and getting dragged for not knowing she sampled Mariah Carey, Latto proved that she’s a certified hitmaker and her next era is promising.

Future

Brittni Mealy Accuses Future of Texting Their Son 'Your Mother Is A H*e'

Future is undoubtedly one of the most influential artists of this decade, but unfortunately, his legacy is tainted by his personal life.

But the Atlanta rapper has a gift to turn the toxicity of his life into infectious tunes like “My Collection,” which displays his vulnerability, or “Rent Money,” which shows a more toxic side.

There’s no telling which Future we’re going to get which makes his ninth studio album interesting.

Joey Badass has been relentlessly teasing his long-awaited ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADASS follow-up. “Shit, the album dropping this year for sure,” Joey Badass said during an Instagram livestream. “I ain’t going to say exactly when, though, because there’s certain rappers who be on my heels, so Ima just… it’s coming though.”

Joey is hailed for his lyricism and being a lead figure during the Blog Era. Do you think he will have one of the best albums of 2022?

Fivio Foreign

Fivio Foreign was accused of sexual assault by a Brooklyn woman. Fivio Foreign, best known for his breakout single, "Big Drip"

Fivio was a contender for the most improved artist of 2021 after featuring on Kanye West’s DONDA cut, “Off The Grid.” Kevin Durant even gave him praise in a recent conversation. “Fivio is just… every time I hear his shit, I feel like I’m a Brooklyn drill [rapper]. I just be in my seat moving like one of them,” KD said. “He’s just so nice with it. That drill shit, Fivio got it. He got it, man.”

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Announces The Production of His Final TDE Album: 'There's Beauty In Completion'

K. Dot announced that he’s producing his last album on TDE following an appearance on Baby Keem’s “family ties.”

“I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood,” he wrote in a message titled ‘nu thoughts’ on his website oklama. “May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling. There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.”

This left fans to question his future in music, but at least we’re certain that another album is due and will probably be a contender for the best albums of 2022.

Lil Baby

Lil Baby Announces He's Dropping New Music

With multiple hits, seven BET Award wins and three Grammy award nominations under his belt in such a short space of time, Lil Baby has developed a strong fanbase.

He has shown development since his breakout single “Yes Indeed” in 2018, and even teased the idea of writing the lyrics for his next album.

Rihanna

Rihanna Says She's 'Experimenting' On Long-Awaited Album

There’s no need to right a blurb for Riri. Justn replay Anti and just wait until R9 drops (whenever that is).

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj Celebrates 'A Decade of Support' After 'Super Bass' Is Certified Diamond

Nicki teased that she was working on the “fifth thing thing” since Queen Radio days, but it appears that she has a lot in the works.

The rapptress is gearing up to release her documentary on HBO Max and it looks like Queen Radio is moving on from Apple Music to another platform.

Plus she’s a mother and mentioned that she didn’t have a nanny, so the work is presumably being put in between mommy duties.

Cardi B

[WATCH] Cardi B Advocates For Black Women Who Were Allegedly Denied Entry To Miami Club

Many naysayers doubted Cardi B’s ability to follow-up her Grammy-award winning debut album, Invasion of Privacy. But then she linked up with Megan Thee Stallion to put that “WAP” on you.

The song created an entire pop cultural moment and builds the hype for her highly-anticipated sophomore album.

Beyonce

Beyoncé Drops New Single ‘Be Alive’ From ‘King Richard’ Soundtrack

Beyonce invented surprise albums so we might not even see her coming.

In an August 2021 interview with Harpers Bazaar, Bey herself confirmed “yes the music is coming!”

The rumors online suggest that her album’s title is B7, but we know from an excerpt from an interview with Sony’s CEO Rob Stringer, Beyonce plans to stop the world at the end of the first quarter.

The Beyhive will be sure to make this project one of the most successful albums of 2022.

Gunna

Gunna is slate to release the “fourth and final” installment of his Drip Season series and according to Lil Baby, Wunna “ain’t bullshittin.'”

Do you think he will have one of the best albums of 2022?

The Weeknd

The XO crooner’s Dawn FM collection features Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey.

The upcoming Amazon Livestream and the wacky cover art is building high anticipation for the project.

The Weeknd boycotted the Grammys after being snubbed for his commercially successful and critically-acclaimed project, After Hours. But it looks like he’s coming for one of the best albums of 2022. What do you think?
