Quinta Brunson took home a Golden Globe award for lead actress in a television series in ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” This comes after her cast mate Tyler James Williams won his first Golden Globe award for supporting actor in a TV series/musical.
Brunson said in her acceptance speech, “I have to say thank you to Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacher, my co-producers who are just incredible and support my vision. My husband, my wonderful, wonderful cast I love you guys so much. And I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for having you. I can’t believe I got to see one of my cast members win tonight. I’m just so happy to be here with you all.”
The workplace comedy “Abbott Elementary” is one of the new and fewest broadcast TV series to gain so much traction and attention recently. When Brunson created the show, she wanted to cater to multiple age groups instead of adults. “I love having people who can laugh along with Janine. I like that kids are watching the show with their parents,” she said.
The ABC comedy series was also a trending topic last year after being nominated for seven Emmy Awards and winning two: One for outstanding casting for a comedy series and another for cast member Sheryl Lee Ralph who earned outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.
Janine Teagues is the young optimistic and extroverted teacher, played by Quinta Brunson, at Philadelphia’s Willard R. Abbott Elementary. The feel-good comedy show first launched its pilot episode in Dec. 2021. It’s now going on its second season and has been renewed for a season three.
