‘Roseanne’ Canceled by ABC After Roseanne Barr’s Racist Tweet

Roseanne has been canceled by ABC because of Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet on Tuesday.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said the ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey.

Disney-ABC Chairman and CEO Bob Iger agreed with Dungey for deciding on cutting out Roseanne.

“There was only thing to do here, and that was the right thing,” he wrote on Twitter.

ABC’s decision to stop the Roseanne renewal comes just a couple of hours after Barr received tons of backlash for her statements about Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama’s former White House adviser.

Barr, 65, tweeted,

“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” referring to Jarrett, who is black and was born in Iran. She then later quickly deleted the terrible tweet.

Barr announced an apology to Jarrett and to “all Americans” on Tuesday, after the internet roasted her on fire for her racist tweet.

“I apologize,” She wrote. “I am now leaving Twitter.”

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans,” she repeated in another tweet. “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.”

A Roseanne production source disclosed to ET that those who worked on the show are “sickened” by Barr’s racist remark, including that perhaps the reboot “wasn’t intended to be.” “We can’t believe Roseanne put the whole team in jeopardy” the source said.

Quickly after the cancelation, ABC scrubbed any trace of the show on its press site. In any case, as of press time, it still remains accessible on the consumer site.

ICM Partners, the talent company who represents Barr, wrote in an internal note to its employees that it will never again represent her. “We are for the most part enormously distressed by the disgraceful and unsatisfactory tweet from Roseanne Barr at the beginning of today. What she composed is antithetical to our center values, both as individuals and as an organization,” read the note. “Consequently, we have informed her that we won’t represent her. From this point forward, Roseanne Barr is not any more a client.”
