Atlanta Rapper Silento Arrested For Murdering Cousin

One Hit Wonder Silento Has Been Arrested For Murdering His Cousin

The Atlanta rapper Silento has been arrested for murdering his cousin. Silento, Richard “Ricky” Lamar Hawk, was arrested for murdering his cousin, 34-year-old Fredrick Rooks, on Jan. 21.

Dekalb County Police department announces the rappers’ arrest in a tweet yesterday (Feb. 1). The department tweets:

“Today, Ricky Hawk, 23, was arrested for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks, 34. On January 21, the DeKalb County Police Department investigated Rooks’ death after he was found shot on Deep Shoals Circle. Hawk is in the DeKalb County Jail charged with Murder. #WeAreDKPD.”

Police spokeswoman, Michaela Vincent, provides the details in a statement. She shares that Hawk was booked into the DeKalb jail on one count of murder.

Police responded to a call for shots being fired on Jan. 21 around 3:30 a.m. in the Panthersville area. Upon arrival, they found Rooks dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds, according to DeKalb police Lt. Rod Bryant. Investigators say that they believe Rooks knew the residents at one of the houses on Deep Shoals Circle, where his body was found.

“I think it is connected to this house,” Bryant said at the time. “We’re still doing a little bit more investigation. The people in the house know him, but he really don’t live there, so we’re trying to see what’s going on.”

At the time, investigators had no information about the suspects’ identity. After a thorough investigation, “DKPD detectives identified Hawk as Rooks’ cousin, and the person responsible for Rooks’ murder,” Vincent said.

According to the report, tesponding officers were able to gather video from multiple residents’ security cameras. The videos showed several cars fleeing the scene at high speeds. In addition, the footage captures at least one gunshot. Eight bullet casings were gathered at the scene, the report shares.

At this time, Vincent shares that detectives are still working to uncover a motive for the shooting.

The Rise to Fame for Silento

Hawk, or Silento, rose to fame as a teenage rap sensation in 2015. His “Watch Me” video has been viewed nearly 1.8 billion times on YouTube.

Since his rise to fame, he has also been arrested multiple times in recent months. In August, the rapper was arrested twice in one week for domestic abuse and gun charges in California. In late October, he was also arrested and booked into the DeKalb jail. At that time, it was for speeding at more than 140 mph on I-85. According to police reports, he told officers that he was speeding because people were following him. In the same report, Silento is quoted saying:

“If there is like 10 cars following me, I can do 143 because I am not a regular person, and you could go look on your computer and it would tell you that.”

However, that same day Hawk was released on a signature bond, according to jail records. Moreover, charges are still pending in that case. Continuing on to 2017, Hawk was temporarily banned from leaving the United Arab Emirates. This was due to a dispute about two performances that a promoter says the rapper failed to perform.

Silento and His Arrest Still Unfolds

It isn’t all bad with the Atlanta rapper. Headlines tell about Silento lending his talents to some charitable leads. This includes a video urging DeKalb school students to take the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test and an anti-vaping campaign.

When the news broke about the Atlanta one-hit-wonder, many Twitter users shared their disappointment. Many are saying the rise and fall of the rapper is a tragic one.  “Silento’s story will go down in music history as the hardest decline for a one-hit-wonder,” one user tweets.
