50 Cent is set to create a television series about the murder case against Snoop Dogg, who was acquitted of the charges in 1996. He announced the news on instagram, I’m afraid this is going to be a problem for everything on Tv,” 50 Cent wrote. “A moment in time ( MURDER WAS THE CASE ) when the dream you have been wishing for feels like a nightmare. You think you know you have no idea. @snoopdogg story is crazy BOOM Green Light Gang I DON’T MISS.”
In 1993, Snoop Dogg and McKinley Lee, his former bodyguard, were charged with murder. When Lee shot and killed 20-year-old Philip Woldemariam in Los Angeles, the multi-platinum selling rapper was in the driver’s seat of a car.Prosecutors claimed Snoop Dogg and Lee hunted down Woldemariam, who was allegedly a rival gang member. During the lengthy trial, defense lawyers said Lee acted in self-defense after Woldemariam reached for a gun, while Snoop Dogg was also found not guilty.
Per Billboard, 50 explained why he approached Snoop for the role in BMF.
“I was like, ‘Snoop would do a great job at this’– and I was able to reach out to him, and get them to commit to it because he was already a big fan of Power and a big supporter of me publicly. He was like, ‘Yo, this is like my favorite s—t.’ He would be saying that constantly.”
In September he released his recent series, BMF, which is based on the infamous drug ring headed by Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, got renewed for a second season just after the first episode.
He also produced other successful series such as Power Book II: Book Of Ghost and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, while Power Book IV: Force is set to premiere on Sunday, Feb. 6 2022 on Starz.
