Barack and Michelle Obama to Ink Netflix Production Deals

Netflix secured a deal with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to produce movies and series.

The former first couple will potentially “work on scripted and unscripted series as well as docu-series, documentary films, and features under the multi-year deal,” as per the streaming services announcement on twitter.

Netflix has a rep of locking down the industry’s most high-profile producers, and they’ve really out done themselves this time. Last year Shonda Rhimes signed a $100 million deal, so there’s no telling how much the Obamas are pocketing.

Barack expressed his enthusiasm in the following statement:

One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.

“Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership,” Michelle said.

This is a great move considering that one of Obama’s most visible appearances was on David Letterman’s Netflix special My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.
