Beyonce is Set to Receive Humanitarian Award at 2020 BET Awards

Words by Andre Kettle

Beyonce will be honored at the BET Awards with the Humanitarian recognition on Sunday, June 28th.

Queen Bey will be honored with the special accolade at this year’s award for her philanthropy works.

The singer raised money for a countless number of causes supporting young women in colleges, launching a multi-year partnership with UNICEF to create BeyGood4Burundi, which aims to provide safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi.

Just a few days ago Bey released a new song “Black Parade” in support Black-owned businesses. In a post on her website, she stated “Happy Juneteenth. Being Black is your activism. Black excellence is a form of protest. Black joy is your right.”

The 2020 BET Awards will also honor Nicolas Johnson, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice as the 2020 Shine A Light Honourees, which recognizes “resilience, ingenuity, and creativity in the face of adversity,” as per the press release.

Lil Wayne will pay tribute to the late great NBA basketball legend Kobe Bryant who passed away in January during the show. Wayne Brady will honor Little Richard, who passed away in May.

The 2020 BET Awards will air on BET and CBS on Sunday, 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
