Dr. Dre’s Classic Debut ‘The Chronic’ to be Archived in Library of Congress

Hip Hop lovers continue to celebrate Dr. Dre’s 1992 debut album, The Chronic, ’til this day and now it’s going to be preserved in history.

The National Recording Registry announced that classic collection will be the latest entry to the library because of its importance to the culture. “The National Recording Registry is the evolving playlist of the American soundscape,” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a press release. “It reflects moments in history captured through the voices and sounds of the time. We received over 800 nominations this year for culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant recordings to add to the registry. As genres and formats continue to expand, the Library of Congress is committed to working with our many partners to preserve the sounds that have touched our hearts and shaped our culture.”

Dr. Dre’s album is archived with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” single, Selena’s Ven Conmigo album, and Tina Turner’s Private Dancer album.

There were recent reports that he was teaming up with Kanye West for a Jesus is King follow-up, but you can never be too sure with Ye.
