Fantasia Gets Deep About Her Suicide Attempt on ‘The Real’

Fantasia rose to fame after winning American Idol, but the road to success wasn’t a smooth one. She had tension with her label, financial struggles, drama in her love life, and it was all well-documented.

She revealed that the stress took a toll on her in a 2010 episode of Behind the Music. “I didn’t have any fight in me,” she said. “I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with — all of it, all of that sh*t.” She added, “I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.

Fast forward about 10 years later and the singer’s life took a complete turn for the better. She is now married with a child and is gearing up to go on tour with Robin Thicke, Tank, and The Bonfyre. She also released her album, Sketchbook.

Fantasia stopped by The Real and candidly spoke about some of her regrets. “When I tried to just get away from the world. Some will say commit suicide. I didn’t think it was me trying to kill myself. I just wanted to be away from all the noise. If I could do that over, I would.”
