Ja Rule released his third studio album, Pain is Love on October 2, 2001.
The album was produced by Murder Inc. head honcho, Irv Gotti, and released through his label/Def Jam Recordings.
The collection debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was supported by four singles: “Livin’ It Up”, “I’m Real (Murder Remix)”, “Always on Time” and “Down Ass Bitch.”
It went certified triple platinum for selling over three million copies. This is very impressive because this is before streaming so these are physical copies we’re counting.
Pain is Love was nominated for a Grammy in 2001 for Best Rap Album but lost to Outkast’s, Stankonia. Other nominees in the category that year was JAY-Z’s The Blueprint 3, Ludacris’ Back for the First Time, and Eve’s Scorpion.
