The “New York Times” is set to Present an documentary called Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson. The film is based on Janet Jackson and her 2004 Super Bowl half time performance with Justin Timberlake where he exposed Janet breast on live TV, causing her career to suffer as a result. The documentary’s official synopsis says it “examines the racial and cultural currents that collided on the Super Bowl stage, and explores how the incident impacted one of the most successful pop musicians in history. The Malfunction film  was directed and produced by Jodi Gomes, who’d previously worked on The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty for A&E per Deadline.

The last New York Times Presents documentary, Framing Britney Spears, was nominated for an Emmy. After it aired, Timberlake issued an public apologies to both Spears and Jackson, saying “I want to take accountability for my own missteps.”

“The industry is flawed,” he said. “It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.”

Hulu and FX will partner to release Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson on Friday, Nov. 19.
