Jennifer Hudson Demands ‘Respect’ in New Trailer for Aretha Franklin Biopic

Jennifer Hudson embodied Aretha Franklin in the trailer for the upcoming biopic titled, Respect.

The trailer below debuted during the 2020 BET Awards ceremony on Sunday night. The Academy Award-winning singer/actress delivered a powerful cover of the late singer’s hit single, “Respect” during the minute teaser.

The clip shows Aretha navigating through the music industry before her big break. Directed by Liesl Tommy, the film also stars Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, and Marc Maron.

The film is scheduled to premiere in December.

Ahead of the trailer’s debut, Jennifer Hudson sang Franklin’s “Young, Gifted & Black” during the awards show.

She donned an emerald green dress for her striking performance below:
