Kali is best known for her viral hit singles “MMM MMM” and “Do A B*tch” and took the stage at her first Rolling Loud in Miami.
We briefly caught up with her backstage and asked her about the inspiration behind her viral hit that’s taking over TikTok.
“So it’s probably not what you think it is,” she said. “I was at the studio so tired, having writer’s block. I was telling my producer ‘Mmm mmm. I don’t want to record today,’ She laughed and continued, “my producer said ‘You have to record a new song’ and I said ‘Mmm mmm.’ So I got in the booth and that’s how that happened.”
Kali has a bright future as a new signee on the Atlantic Records roster with two viral hits under her belt. She has the hit making ability and the looks. Additionally, there is a new era of female rap that she has the opportunity to cement herself in.
When asked how she does she feel to be apart of it she responded, “We lit! Folks like to talk about us female rappers but we is doing the thing for sure. I’m happy to be apart of this era where female rappers are like ‘Hey I can do that too.'”
