Keenan Thompson is Getting his Own Show After 15 Years on ‘SNL’

Words by Andre Kettle

According to Deadline, Keenan Thompson will star in the NBC single-camera series, Saving Larry. The series will be about a widowed father of two children. His father-in-law is also there to provide support, whether Thompson’s character likes it or not. The idea stemmed from SNL creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels.

This is a major move for the comedian since he is already having a big year. Thompson earned his first Emmy Award nomination and is the longest cast member of all time for Saturday Night Live, in which he set the record for last year with 15 seasons.

But with the new gig coming up Thompson may have to end his run with the current show.

“I think about leaving and I fear it. This is such a special place, you want to do your part here, but also want to make room for people that are coming behind you. This was the first year I really started feeling like, ‘OK, I could push out of it now.’ I’m not overly excited about going back to auditioning,” Thompson says during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.

Before SNL, he was known as a child star on the Nickelodeon shows All That and Kenan & Kel.
