Kendrick Lamar joined Eminem in the history books a week ago. His 2012 LP, good kid, m.A.A.d city arrived at No. 116 on the Hot 200 chart on Aug. 4, becoming the first Hip Hop album since Em’s, Recovery to spend no less than 300 weeks on the diagram.
Slim Shady’s collections, Recovery (312 weeks), The Eminem Show (354 weeks) and Curtain Call: The Hits (403) are the main other Hip Hop projects to achieve the breakthrough. Over all kinds, 22 collections have spent no less than 300 weeks on the Hot 200, driven by Pink Floyd’s, The Dark Side of the Moon at 937 weeks.
K. Dot’s collection was released as a “short film” in Oct. 2012 and debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 200, yet never achieved the top spot. It got Lamar five Grammy nominations, created his first best 10 single in the MC Eight-including “m.A.A.d. City,” and was certified triple-platinum this past June.

Kendrick revealed that the album was re-done three times in an interview last September. “We did good kid about three, four times before the world got to it,” he said. “New songs, new everything.” The rapper also released a short film companion to the LP in March 2016.
