First Listen Review: DJ Khaled’s ‘Khaled Khaled’

DJ Khaled’s star-studded album, Khaled Khaled is here and was met with mixed reviews according to these Twitter streets.

This album was STACKED with an iconic collaboration with JAY-Z and Nas on the same record. Some collaborations like Lil Baby and Lil Durk on “Every Chance I Get” made perfect sense. Meanwhile, other collaborations raised an eyebrow like H.E.R. and Migos and Justin Bieber and 21 Savage.

But the H.E.R. and Migos collaboration was underwhelming due to the Jamaican infusion over Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know,” in my opinion.

“We have all ya favorite artist in their prime on one project,” Lenny S wrote, who served as an A&R for Khaled Khaled. That’s Khaled’s typical approach but was that a good formula in 2021?

The star power is insane but it’s redundant when artists like Bryson Tiller, Lil Baby, and Drake appear multiple times. Moreover, the album is too long, most albums coming out in present-day are half the length.

The production is the second most impressive thing on the album but that’s no surprise when it comes to a DJ Khaled project.

Megan Thee Stallion was also featured and delivered a forgettable verse, just like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

But on a positive note, Cardi B held it down for the women on the album. Bryson Tiller carried “Body In Motion” on his back, and it’s always dope when Khaled joins forces with reggae icons like Buju Banton, Capleton, and Bounty Killer.
