Lil Wayne Explains Why Drake Wasn’t Featured on ‘Tha Carter V’

Lil Wayne is in full Mr. Carter mode. The Young Money head honcho sat down with Elliot Wilson for TIDAL’s CRWNseries and they had an in-depth conversation about the critically acclaimed collection.

This marks his first live interview since the album’s release. It went down in Tunechi’s hometown, Louisiana.

They spoke about a range of topics including his strained relationship with Birdman and the long road to the release of the highly anticipated fifth installment of Tha Carter series. When asked why Drake wasn’t featured on the album he said it was because of clearance issues. “He has a song,” Wayne said. “It didn’t get cleared. People be tripping man.”

When speaking on XXXTentacion’s feature, he admitted that he didn’t even know who he was until he listened to the song and the idea to feature him came from Mack Maine. He also discussed his “Mona Lisa” collaboration featuring Kendrick Lamar and reuniting with Swizz Beatz.
