Lizzo Shares Thoughts on Body Positivity Movement

Recently Lizzo calls out social media platforms, focusing on the trend of body positivity.

On a recent TikTok, the artist posted a clip with the caption, “Please use the body positive movement to empower yourself. But we need to protect and uplift the bodies it was created for and by.”

The clip starts off with a woman named Marissa Matthews who says ” I don’t understand why I can’t just exist in my own body.” The women responded to a comment that seemed to “call her out.” Why she blocked and deleted comments claiming she didn’t “want to speak her truth.”The truth the user says that everyone has time to lose weight.

Because of this clip, Lizzo responds about how the body positivity movement has changed. The trend was created to uplift bigger women, making them feel more confident and proud of who they are. But recently it seems that this trend had failed to empower them.

The award winning artists explains that we finally have an understanding about women of various sizes. Yet, ” fat people are are still getting the short end of this movement!”

She goes on to say “”We’re still getting talked about, memed, shamed… and no one cares anymore because it’s like, ‘Body positivity is for everybody!'”

While the artist celebrates that women everywhere are beginning to love their bodies and who they are. She brings to focus and reminds us who this movement was about. And who it is starting to fail.

She continues to say “The people who created this movement — big women, big Brown and Black women, queer women — are not benefiting from the mainstream success of it.” 

As follows, she reminds the public that bigger women are not taking seriously. In both the medical and social field.
