Lupita Nyong’o will portray Trevor Noah’s mother in his forthcoming biopic entitled, Born a Crime.
The film is an adaptation of the The Daily Show’s host best-selling autobiography, Born a Crime: Stories From a Southern African Childhood. The project is being produced by Noah’s Ark Angel Productions partnered with Mainstay Entertainment, and Nyong’o.
The book details how Noah grew up post-apartheid in South Africa with a white father and a Black mother. His mother, Patricia, grew up in a hut with 14 other people and took her son to three different churches on Sunday, a prayer meeting on Tuesday, Bible study on Wednesday, and youth church on Thursday.
The book was published in 2016 and won the James Thurber Prize for American Humor and two NAACP Image Awards.
