Mariah Carey has been dubbed the Queen of Christmas. She released a new video for her 25-year-old hit holiday tune, “All I Want for Christmas is You.” It premiered on YouTube live Thursday night along with a live fan Q&A.
The original video is a grainy, home-styled video showing the singer frolicking in the snow. But the new Joseph Kahn-directed clearly had a bigger budget. You see giant candy canes, dancing soldiers, and skating Santas. We wanted to make a modern classic,” Carey said during the Q&A. “It’s kind of the opposite of the original video… This is more of a production.”
“All I Want For Christmas is You” easily turned into one of the most streamed songs of the holiday season. The following day after Halloween people began playing it and it appeared on the charts. Sneaking its way to the No. 1 spot, two weeks before Christmas, for the first time ever.
