Martin Luther King Jr’s. niece says her uncle might’ve really gotten a kick out of Cardi B’s “Housewives of the Civil Rights Movement” parody, however, the wives wouldn’t have found it funny.
TMZ spoke to Alveda King, MLK’s niece, and she assured that she understands the video was all in good fun and that’s it. Alveda says Coretta Scott King and the other Civil Rights “housewives” didn’t talk that way, and never would.
Alveda is okay with people finding humor in the spoof, as long as they don’t literally place it into historical context. She adds that will be a “disgrace” if young people actually believed that these women behaved this way behind closed doors.
Bernice King called Cardi’s interpretation of her mom “repulsive,” but took to Twitter to announce that the Bronx rapper reached out to apologize. Bernice’s older brother, Martin Luther King III, expressed his distaste for the skit especially because it was released on the 55th anniversary of MLK’s “I Have A Dream” speech.
The video is clearly old and was recorded pre-“Bodak Yellow.” Cut her some slack.
