Over the weekend, Megan Thee Stallion was awarded the 18th Congressional District’s Humanitarian Award in Houston just a day after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in health administration.Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee presented Thee Stallion with the award.
“This award has not been given out often, or it has not been given out to many. That is why it remains a very special part of our congressional district,” Congresswoman Lee said at the ABC13 event. “When this award is given, it has that special promise and special history.”
“The hero award is wrapped up in humanitarianism. It means that you have exhibited humanity and you have helped without asking,” Lee added.
Megan has given back to her Houston community in many ways during her career. During the pandemic, she linked up with Amazon to donate medical supplies to a local nursing home. She gave $10,000 to a bail fund for protesters and assisted in the rebuilding of the city following the March snowstorm. Megan announced that she and Popeyes were donating six figures to Houston Random Acts of Kindness, which helps children with special needs, veterans, and others in need, shortly after launching her Hottie sauce.
Megan Thee Stallion give a heartfelt acceptance speech and credited her grandma. “It’s my responsibility to take care of the city that took care of me,” she said. “My grandma always taught me to be kind and giving. I learned that from her… I’ve only been raised by very giving women. So I definitely want to dedicate this award to her too because she taught me how to be the woman I am today.”
