Nicki Minaj Comes Out of Retirement with New Single, ‘Yikes’

Words by Elaine Menard

Nicki Minaj comes for all her haters on the intro of her highly anticipated single, “Yikes.” If you remember back in September 2019 Mrs. Petty tweeted her retirement from music and questioned if she wanted to release her fifth studio album.

While doing a Q&A for Pollstar with Irving Azoff on Wednesday Nicki confirmed that “Yikes” will be released as a promotional single but won’t get a video. She also confirmed that she’s been working on her Queen follow-up.

The cover photo for the track was posted to her Instagram on Thursday, staring the “Barbie Dreams” rapper and her man sporting a cherry red Lambo. The new record already sparked controversy due to her Rosa Parks line. Twitter didn’t seem to like it and thought the timing was off being that it’s Black History Month, and it was previewed on the Civil Rights icon’s birthday.

Minaj responded back via her Instagram story stating, she had no idea people took offense to the line and she doesn’t care. If you haven’t heard the single yet it’s now available on all streaming services.
