The self-proclaimed Pied Piper of R&B, R.Kelly has met his fate in his 6-week trial for Sex Trafficking. A Brooklyn jury found the Grammy award winning R&B singer guilty of all counts. The jury deliberated for a total of nine hours before agreeing on its verdict finding him guilty on nine counts that carry a maximum of life in prison. The Lifetime documentary : Surviving R.Kelly was the icing on the cake , the 2019 documentary revealed numerous women who came forward with their accounts of abuse from the disgraced singer.
In Brooklyn Federal Court over 25 days , women testified to the cruelty and violence that came with dating Kelly.He beat girls and women with shoes, cords or his fists and delivered vicious spankings that left bruises when they broke his rules, the women testified.
Fourteen alleged supporting acts were linked with the racketeering charge.The jury found that the government had proved 12 of those acts, which involved five victims one of them being the singer Aaliyah.The racketeering charge against R. Kelly needed prosecutors to prove that the singer was the leader of an ongoing criminal enterprise involving multiple enablers, although he was the only defendant on trial.Kelly still has to federal charges in Chicago on child pornography and obstruction, and state charges in Illinois and Minnesota.
Outside of the Brooklyn courthouse where the trial took , place fans of the “Trapped in the Closet” singer proclaimed his innocence , stating that the whole case was racially motivated. “We are not giving up,” one woman shouted into a megaphone, as Kelly’s lawyers left the courthouse Monday afternoon. “Free Robert Sylvester Kelly.” “This is a racist country,” another said. Kelly, like many of the women and men who testified against him, is Black.
Kelly, faces anywhere from 10 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on May 4.
