Hollywood seems to be running out of fresh ideas because all of our childhood classics are getting remade. The latest franchise to receive the reboot treatment is Scream.
Variety reports the 1996 classic is set to be made in a “new decade” therefore there are “new rules.” The outlet reports that Directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are on board to helm the film.
There aren’t many details about this reported reboot other than it’s happening and will be distributed by Spyglass Media Group, who recently obtained the rights from the Weinstein Company in 2018.
The original Scream was directed by Wes Craven who is known as a horror icon after the franchise spawned three successful films and shaped the entire genre. The main character has even been immortalized and fans dress up like him every year during Halloween.
Craven resurrected the Ghostface Killer in 2011 for the fourth installment of the franchise. Scream 4 went on to gross a total of $97.1 million. Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox reprised their roles. But there’s no telling if they’ll be back especially without the original director’s involvement.
Are you here for the reboot or should Hollywood just leave this story alone?
