Storm Reid Reflects on Starring in When They See Us: ‘I Feel Like I Was Apart of History’

Storm Reid was honored with the Rising Star Award at the second annual BET Her Awards.

The 16-year-old actress chopped it up with Two Bees TV for a few minutes before the ceremony. She reflected on what it was like to star in the inspirational, game changing docu-series, When They See Us.

“It’s a blessing. I feel like I was apart of history because it gavee a piece of justice back to those men. Not saying it gave back the time that was lost, or the time that was taken away from those men, but we actually see them now,” Reid expressed.

Storm Reid portrayed Korey Wise’s then-girlfriend, Lisa, who was the last person he was with before going to Rikers Island and serving 12 years for a rape and assault he had absolutely no connection to, along with the other four men known as the Central Park Five.

Later in the video, Reid confirmed that her character was in fact based a real person and shared that she had the opportunity to work directly with Mr. Wise on set. This also marks her second project with helmsman, Ava DuVernay, who directed A Wrinkle in Time, which was also Reid’s breakout role.
