The protest in the death of 27-year-old African American Rayshard Brooks was held on Friday, June 19th, which also marked Juneteenth.
The peaceful protest quickly turned violent when shots rang out. Eyewitnesses say that they heard about 20 shots.

A woman was shot in the leg right near the Wendy’s where Brooks was shot and killed by police for attempting to flee from two white officers. The “crime” Brooks committed was falling asleep inside his car outside a Wendy’s restaurant. His death has been then ruled a homicide.
The woman who was shot has not been identified, was still conscious and breathing and the injuries were not life-threatening according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
It is the third shooting in Atlanta on Friday night, as the city still mourns the death of Rayshard.
Last week, the President of an Atlanta university and a local entrepreneur joined together to provide more than $600,000 in full scholarships for Brooks children. Brooks was a father of four children, 3 young daughters and a 13-year-old stepson.
Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry also announced that he was providing Brooks’ children with scholarships and paid for his funeral costs last week.
