Virgil Abloh Passes Away After Silent 2-Year Battle With Cancer

We’re saddened to report that Virgil Abloh passed away after silently battling cancer for years.

“LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, November 28th, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years,” the official LVMH account tweeted.

“We are all shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow, and we are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of their husband, their father, their brother, or their friend,” Bernard Arnault.

According to the Instagram announcement, Virgil was diagnosed with “a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma” in 2019.

Pharrell reacted to the tragic news. “My heart is broken Virgil you were a kind, generous, thoughtful creative genius your work as a human and your work as a spiritual being will live forever Sending love and light to your wife, children, family and day ones you’re with the Master now, shine.”

In a recent interview Virgil Abloh said, “I definitely don’t think about the past too much. I’m sort of always working ahead. Shayne Oliver, whom I respect a lot, explained how we are at the point where Black designers can just reference themselves. And that’s very empowering. I think one thing I’m not is a pure futurist. I see how, in design, people get obsessed about two things: being completely new, and being the future.”
