Loretta Divine recently teased the idea of a Waiting to Exhale sequel, but it turns out fans will get a television series instead.
The author of the best-selling book that inspired the movie made the announcement on Twitter Thursday afternoon. “So, WAITING TO EXHALE is going to be a TV series,” Terry McMillan tweeted. “Produced by Lee Daniels. Attica Locke and Tembi Locke are writing. Anthony Hemingway will direct. I lucked out.”
The 1995 film was directed by Forest Whitaker and starred Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon, and Whitney Houston as their characters looked for, lost, and found love.
The film grossed over $80M at the box office and its Grammy Award-winning soundtrack, produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds featured Houston’s hit “Exhale (Shoop Shoop).”
McMillan didn’t dish on any other details on the TV adaptation, but she rejoiced about the talent that’s already on board.
