Willow Smith’s Early Rise to Fame Drove Her To Cut Herself

The Smith’s have been a family in the lime light for years now. And in the most recent years, more specifically Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been very open about their tolerant parenting ways on many media outlets. In 2016, on the Jimmy Fallon show Will Smith told the show host that one of the technique’s they use is called “Circle of Safety”.

“They’re allowed to tell us everything that they did [in the circle of safety], and they can’t get in trouble,” he says.

Now, Jada Pinkett Smith has created a Facebook Watch series called “Red Table Talk”. According to an interview with people’s magazine, the show will include Jada, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and her now 17-year-old daughter Willow Smith.

“Red Table Talk is about raw truth, love and deep passion. My mother is old school, Willow is new school, and I find myself right in the middle,”

Well things got pretty raw on Monday’s episode titled “Surviving Loss”. The episode encompassed the hosts discussing their experiences with loss and coping mechanisms. On this episode, the “Whip My Hair” singer Willow Smith, admitted that she was a survivor of self-harm. She admitted to cutting herself due to her insecurities and her lack of self-identity. This was shocking news to Jada and Adrienne, as the singer admitted to only revealing her dark secret to a close friend.

“I would have to say I honestly feel like I lost my sanity at one point,” she said. “It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’”

The singer was only 9-year olds when “Whip My Hair” took her to stardom. She then reveals that after the commotion with her tour settled, she was left with questioning who she was as a person.

“After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album. And I was like, I’m not gonna do that,” she said. “After all of that kind of settled down, I was listening to a lot of dark music and it was just so crazy and I was just plunged into this black hole and I was, like, cutting myself and doing crazy things.”
